71 people arrested for stepping on Kidero Grass
Seventy one people were on Monday arrested at the city centre for stepping on grass and littering.
The offenders were arrested by the county’s Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement team and charged with dumping, littering and using undesignated walkaways.
“The offenders appeared before City Principle Magistrate M.W Njagi. Most of the offenders were arrested on grounds of refusing to comply with last weeks’ notice issued against illegal dumping and littering,” said Governor Evans Kidero.
“Please avoid littering and dumping illegally and also ensure to only use designated pathways or else you will meet the same consequences,” he said.
The team was deployed in the city early this month to monitor the city’s’ cleanliness and maintain projects under the Sh million beautification program.
It is however unclear where the team got the powers to arrest or detain.
The governor announced the arrests on his Facebook page.
