Authorities have detained the proprietor of a garage located in the Ruai area of Nairobi in connection with the lynching of two of his employees, who were accused of siphoning fuel.
The two individuals, employed at the garage, were alleged to have been involved in the theft of fuel from vehicles parked on the premises, leading to an outcry from other workers on Monday afternoon.
This outcry resulted in a violent attack on the accused, who succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The owner of Telco Auto garage, situated in the St. Joseph area, is among those apprehended following the fatal incident.
Reports from the parents of the deceased indicate that the two men were brutally beaten to death at the garage.
A police team responded to the scene and discovered the bodies of the victims, identified as John Oduor Otieno and Emmanuel Oduor Martin, both of whom exhibited multiple injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.
In connection with this case, two additional suspects have been arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation regarding the murder.
Authorities reported that the suspects would have been apprehended and handed over to law enforcement for further processing.
Incidents of mob lynching have been increasing in the nation, prompting police to urge the public to refrain from such actions.
They seek the surrender of the suspects to facilitate processing and potential prosecution.
In Mtito Andei, Makueni County, a 37-year-old man was killed by a mob following allegations that he had assaulted his brother.
The event took place in Darajani village, where the victim, identified as Daniel Maingi, was lynched.
It is reported that he suffered from mental challenges.
Local residents reacted to the cries of his parents, who claimed he had stabbed his brother.
A mob intervened, attacking him and binding him with ropes.
He was later released, but during the day, he was discovered deceased.
Upon examination, he exhibited visible injuries to the back of his head and bruises on both hands, according to police.
The body has been transported to the Kambu sub-county hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police are actively investigating the incident.
In the Kiboswa area of Kisumu, a 32-year-old man named Joseph Chura was lynched by a mob over accusations of motorcycle theft.
His body has been taken to the mortuary of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for preservation and post-mortem analysis.
In a separate incident in Sotik, Bomet County, the body of a man was discovered on the roadside.
Police arrived at the scene and determined that the deceased, identified as Hillary Yegon, 33, was found without any visible injuries.
His body has been moved to the Kapkatet sub-county hospital mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
