Moments before their arraignment at Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, a group of anti-abduction protesters arrested on Monday broke into songs and chants, demonstrating their unwavering resolve.
In a video seen by the Star, the group was heard chanting solidarity slogans such as, “A people united can never be defeated, Gen Z united can never be defeated,” as they expressed their commitment to “liberating Kenya.”
The police officers guarding the protesters appeared unfazed by the spirited chants, as they moved the group from their holding cells to await arraignment.
This group is just a small part of the larger wave of Kenyans who have taken to the streets across the country to voice their outrage over the growing number of abductions and forced disappearances.
In December alone, seven people have been abducted in Nairobi, with only one confirmed to have been found.
During Monday’s anti-abduction protests, several demonstrators, including prominent figures, were arrested and detained.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, who had filed a case at the High Court to compel the police and other agencies to produce the seven abducted youths, was among those detained at Kamukunji police station before his arraignment.
The case, which aims to compel the Inspector General of Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to account for the missing individuals, has garnered significant attention.
The arrested protesters will now face charges, with the DPP expected to present the case at Milimani Law Courts.
