The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed circulating rumors about a manhunt for Bellamkonda Ram Prasad, an Indian citizen, in connection with alleged organ harvesting activities in Kenya.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the DCI refuted a viral social media post that claimed they were actively searching for Prasad, suggesting he was involved in orchestrating the deaths of young Kenyans.
The misleading post falsely alleged that the DCI had issued a call for information to help locate Prasad, who was purportedly the mastermind behind an international human trafficking syndicate focused on organ harvesting.
The post also claimed that Prasad, also known as “Pratapan,” had previously escaped police custody in India, where he was held for similar crimes, and had entered Kenya on December 19, 2024.
The fabricated post went further, claiming that Prasad was operating a kidney harvesting network in Kenya and that a cash reward would be offered for any information leading to his arrest.
The DCI moved quickly to address the concerns raised by the post, clarifying that the allegations were unfounded and that no such investigation or manhunt was underway.
The circulation of this false information had caused some fear among the public, with social media users expressing alarm over the supposed activities of the alleged “Indian Mafia” led by Prasad.
This clarification follows recent heightened fears about organ harvesting in the country, amplified by another unrelated incident.
Police in Kapsabet had earlier arrested a former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) over her child’s involvement in the brutal murder of a suspect, who had been held at the Chemase Police Station.
Authorities linked the MCA and her child to an organ-harvesting syndicate, leading to her arrest while attempting to flee from an angry mob.
The DCI has assured the public that it remains committed to investigating all criminal activities and urged caution regarding unverified social media claims.
