A mentally ill man was attacked and killed by an enraged mob after he allegedly murdered his father in a village in Kibwezi, Makueni County.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of December 9 in Muembeni village, within the Ndetani sub-location.
The deceased, Joseph Muteti, 37, reportedly struck his 72-year-old father, Muteti Musyimi, with a stone, delivering a fatal blow to the head during what police described as an unprovoked attack.
His mother, who witnessed the confrontation, raised the alarm, prompting villagers to respond swiftly.
Upon hearing the commotion, villagers armed with stones and sticks descended upon Joseph, fatally injuring him during the lynching.
His mother informed police that Joseph had previously refused to take his medication, which had become a source of concern for the family.
She had called her husband to assist in persuading their son to take his medicine; however, it was during his father’s arrival that the deadly confrontation occurred.
Police were summoned to the scene and subsequently transported both bodies to the mortuary for further examination.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and they have reiterated their stance against mob justice, urging the public to report crimes and surrender suspects to law enforcement for appropriate action.
In a separate incident, a man was electrocuted while pruning a tree close to a live power line in Chepngaina village, located on the outskirts of Bomet town.
Eyewitnesses reported that the man cried out for help from atop a bluegum tree before falling to the ground, still clutching the panga he was using.
Kenya Power officials stationed at the Bomet power station were promptly dispatched to disconnect the electricity supply.
The man’s body was later recovered and taken to the mortuary, pending an autopsy and further investigations.
Meanwhile, in Ragumo, Kisumu County, a 50-year-old man was found dead, suspected to have drowned.
The incident occurred on December 9 along the Chiga-Rabuor road at Obuso River, according to police reports.
The victim, identified as Ezekiel Ongangi, fell into the river while attempting to cross.
Locals managed to retrieve his body some time after the unfortunate incident.
His remains have also been moved to the mortuary, pending autopsy and further investigation.
