Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge as manager on an interim basis.
The former Red Devils striker only came in as Ten Hag’s assistant at the beginning of this season.
And already he finds himself in one of the biggest jobs in football.
“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager,” a statement from the club read.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
On Sunday, United were beaten 2-1 away by West Ham after a dubious late penalty was awarded to the Hammers by VAR.
And United have won just three of their nine league games this season, losing four and drawing two.
Those include 3-0 home defeats to both Liverpool and Tottenham.
They’ve also failed to win any of their games in the Europa League.
