Close friends and associates of the late Mayienga FM head Festus Amimo have honoured his memory in a deeply touching way, Nairobi News has learnt.
As earlier reported, Amimo, who headed Mayienga FM, a radio station under the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), passed away on Monday, December 8, after collapsing at a hotel in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
Following his death, several cultural matters emerged, including the revelation that Amimo had not fulfilled a key Luo traditional requirement during his lifetime.

According to Luo customs, a house, commonly referred to as a simba, must be built for a man’s eldest son at the family’s rural home.
This obligation had not been met before Amimo’s passing, a situation that, culturally, could expose the family to ridicule and ancestral reproach.
Determined to protect their late friend’s legacy and family dignity, Amimo’s close allies reportedly came together to raise funds for the construction of the house.
In a remarkable show of leadership and solidarity, Ugenya MP David Ochieng’ stepped in and sponsored the construction of a semi-permanent house for Amimo’s son, an act that has won widespread admiration.
The house was completed before Amimo’s burial, with local residents describing it as one of the fastest semi-permanent structures ever put up in the area.
Reports from the village indicate that the construction was completed in under six days.
The collective gesture by the MP and Amimo’s friends moved many Kenyans online, with netizens praising them as true friends who stood by the deceased even in death.

Amimo, fondly known on air as Wuod Amimo, is set to be laid to rest on Friday, December 12, 2025, at his Awasi home.
His sudden death shocked the media fraternity and members of the political class, many of whom had worked closely with or interacted with the seasoned broadcaster.
Among those who reacted was Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, who called on the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to investigate the rising number of Kenyans dying from cardiac-related complications.
