Governor Sakaja Hosts California Delegation For Climate And Trade Dialogue


Nairobi City County on Tuesday welcomed a high-level delegation from California led by Toks Omishakin, the U.S. State’s Secretary of Transportation, and Ms. Dilpreet Sidhu, Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles for International Relations, for a strategic dialogue on climate-related trade and development cooperation.

Governor Johnson Sakaja, represented by Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri and the county’s senior leadership team, facilitated discussions aimed at fostering inclusive and sustainable urban growth through international collaboration.

Secretary Omishakin outlined the delegation’s objective to enhance climate and economic partnerships between California and Kenya, underscoring the importance of city-level cooperation in addressing global challenges.

Deputy Mayor Sidhu reaffirmed Los Angeles’ commitment to developing a strategic partnership with Nairobi, proposing the launch of a Nairobi–Los Angeles Trade and Investment Dialogue.

The initiative is expected to formalize and unlock investment opportunities across both cities, particularly in areas of climate resilience, mobility, and innovation.

Also present at the meeting were Ambassador Ali Mohammed, the Special Envoy on Climate, and Ambassador Philip Thigo, the Special Envoy on Technology, both from the Office of the President.

Their presence highlighted the national government’s support for strengthening subnational international partnerships.

Governor Sakaja praised the growing collaboration between Nairobi and California, expressing optimism that the new dialogue would yield tangible outcomes for the people of both cities.
