Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has dismissed seven members of various Ward Education Bursary Committees, replacing them with new appointees in a move formalized through a gazette notice issued on Friday, May 2.
The decision was announced by Mercy Njagi, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Gender, Culture, and Social Services, who cited Section 7 of the Kiambu County Education Bursary Fund Act, 2014, as the legal basis for the revocations.

Among those removed are:
Timothia Gichia (Chairperson, Muchatha Ward), Julius Wambui Kinyanjui and Pauline Kamau (Members, Muchatha Ward), Rosemary Njeri Ndichu (Chairperson, Karai Ward) , Geffrey Ndung’u (Member, Sigona Ward), Hannah Wanjiru Mburu (Chairperson, Bibirioni Ward), Joseph Kuria Wanjiru (Member, Kijabe Ward).
Their replacements include:
James Mungai Kuria (Chairperson, Muchatha Ward), David Mungai Wang’ang’a and Stephen Mwihia Njau (Members, Muchatha Ward), James Mwangi Nderi (Chairperson, Karai Ward), Peter Kenneth Gakuhi (Member, Sigona Ward), Mary Wanjiku Mwaura (Chairperson, Bibirioni Ward), Jane Gathoni Mwangi (Member, Kijabe Ward).
The notice did not provide reasons for the abrupt revocations, which follow a similar shake-up last month. In a gazette notice dated March 24, 2025, the county government dismissed four other committee members:
Immaculate Wanja Mang’ere (Chairperson, Muguga Ward), Peter Kanja Kimani (Chairperson, Uthiru Ward), Jane Njeri Makumi (Member, Uthiru Ward), Mariticron Wangui (Member, Ikunu Ward).
New appointments at that time included:
Nelson Njenga Githinji (Chairperson, Muguga Ward), Loise Njoki Maina (Chairperson, Kijabe Ward), Joseph Njuguna Wanjiru (Chairperson, Uthiru Ward), Esther Nyambura Nyutu (Member, Ikunu Ward), Beatrice Wambura Muchiri (Member, Uthiru Ward)
The wave of changes has raised questions, particularly due to the lack of explanation for the dismissals, but the county maintains that the appointments are within the law.
