Creating content on TikTok can be fun and spontaneous, but sometimes you may want to pause and finish your video later. That’s where the draft feature comes in handy. TikTok allows users to save videos as drafts, meaning you can record or edit your content and return to it anytime before posting. Saving drafts is especially useful for creators who want to perfect their clips, add effects, or wait for the right time to publish.
Creating and Saving a Draft
To save a TikTok draft, start by recording your video using the “+” button at the bottom of the screen. After recording, you can edit the video by adding music, text, filters, effects, or voiceovers. Once you’re satisfied with the video or need to pause editing, tap “Next” to go to the posting screen.
On the posting screen, you will see a “Drafts” button on the lower left corner. Instead of tapping “Post,” simply tap “Drafts.” The video will be saved to a private folder on your profile labeled “Drafts.” You can return to it at any time to continue editing or post it when ready.
Where to Find Your Drafts
Once saved, drafts are stored locally on your device, not on TikTok’s servers. To access them, go to your profile by tapping the “Profile” icon at the bottom right of the screen. At the top of your video grid, you’ll see a box labeled “Drafts.” Tap on it to view all saved videos.
From there, you can tap on any draft to edit, post, or delete it. If you uninstall the TikTok app or switch devices, your drafts will be permanently lost because they are not backed up online.
Managing and Posting Your Drafts
To post a draft, simply tap on it and make any final edits if needed. Then proceed by tapping “Next” and then “Post” to publish it like any regular video.

If you want to delete a draft, enter the “Drafts” folder, tap “Select” in the top right corner, choose the draft(s) you want to remove, and tap “Delete.”
Drafts are device-specific. That means if you record a video on one phone and log in to TikTok on another, the draft will not appear. To avoid losing important drafts, avoid deleting or logging out of the app.
Keeping your TikTok app updated also ensures smooth saving and access to drafts, especially as new editing features or storage enhancements are rolled out.
