Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has come out in defense of Noordin Haji, the Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and has criticized President William Ruto over the abduction of Public Service CS Justin Muturi’s son, Leslie Muturi.
Kalonzo raised serious concerns about President Ruto’s involvement in the case, questioning how the President could make a phone call from a pavilion and have Muturi’s son released.
“The revelations by Muturi about the identity of the Commander-in-Chief of the abduction squad are very revealing,” Kalonzo said.
“If the Attorney General can’t get answers on the whereabouts of his son, who can? And if Muturi can’t get his calls answered by officials like the DG of NIS or the DCI, who else can?”
The Wiper leader went further to allege that President Ruto is the mastermind behind the abductions, pointing to his public statements and those of his close associates within the government.
“Ruto’s role as Commander-in-Chief of the abduction squad has been made clear by his own remarks and the actions of his cronies,” Kalonzo claimed.
He stressed that Noordin Haji should not be held solely responsible for the abductions, but rather the President, as the head of state, should bear the ultimate responsibility.
Kalonzo accused President Ruto of overseeing what he described as a “dictatorship” involving illegal abductions and torture in underground prisons, likening it to a criminal enterprise under international law.
“According to the ICC’s Rome Statute, those who bear the highest responsibility are not Noordin Haji, but William Samoei Ruto,” he added.
Kalonzo also raised concerns about the state of the Kenya Kwanza administration, questioning how senior officials such as Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and PS Raymond Omollo could be misled by subordinates.
He alleged that there were structures within the government operating outside the constitutional framework, engaging in criminal activities against citizens.
“We have established that some of the headquarters for these abductions are located near Ruiru,” he claimed.
The opposition leader called on President Ruto to respect the constitution and protect the rights of Kenyans.
“We demand that Ruto respect the constitution and uphold the oath of office he swore to preserve under Kenya’s 2010 constitution.
If he cannot, he should resign,” Kalonzo asserted. He emphasized that the President must take responsibility for the abductions, stating that if Ruto fails to enforce the law and protect citizens, resignation would be the only solution.
This comes after CS Muturi disclosed in a recorded statement to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that he had physically gone to State House to urge the President to intervene in the case.
During his visit, it was revealed that the NIS had his son in custody. Muturi described a conversation in which President Ruto joked about the reasons behind his son’s arrest, mentioning that other officials’ children had been involved in similar demonstrations.
The CS recounted hearing the President ask Haji if he was holding his son, to which Haji confirmed.
Ruto then instructed Haji to release Leslie immediately, with Haji assuring that the release would happen within the hour.
Kalonzo’s statements have intensified the political heat over the abduction scandal, with his criticisms of President Ruto and the government continuing to fuel public debate about accountability and the rule of law.
