A Kenyan man was shot by his neighbor, a Caucasian male, while engaged in yard maintenance in Minneapolis, United States.
According to law enforcement officials, Davis Moturi was outside his residence trimming a tree when he was shot in the neck by his neighbor, identified as John Sawchak.
The Minneapolis police have classified this incident as attempted murder.
The shooting resulted in severe injuries for Moturi, including a fractured spine, two broken ribs, and a concussion, and was recorded in videos that have since circulated on the internet.
In these videos, Moturi is seen collapsing to the ground, with his power saw still running beside him.
Prior to this event, Moturi had lodged over 20 complaints with the police regarding harassment by Sawchak.
Despite these repeated reports, the Minneapolis police allegedly did not take adequate measures, leading to significant outrage from the community and observers.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara has acknowledged the department’s failures, conceding that they did not respond with the necessary urgency to avert the shooting.
“The Minneapolis police somehow did not act urgently enough to prevent that individual from being shot,” he said.
This acknowledgment has sparked significant public anger and raised alarms regarding systemic problems within the police department.
Following the shooting incident, a prolonged and tense standoff occurred between law enforcement and Sawchak, who was initially reluctant to capitulate.

From his hospital bed, Moturi articulated his dissatisfaction with the police’s inadequate response to his earlier complaints of harassment during an interview with NBC News.
“I don’t call the police for fun. I call because I want my family to be safe. It’s very sad that it had to come to this,” he said.
