A man was lynched by a mob after he brandished an AK47 rifle and fired several shots into the air.
The chaotic scene resulted in injuries to two innocent bystanders, a woman who was struck in the thigh and abdomen, and a man who suffered an injury to his right abdomen.
Both individuals were promptly taken to Likoni Sub-County Hospital, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition.
According to police reports, a team from Inuka Police Station responded to an emergency call about gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of the alleged shooter, who had been beaten to death by an angry crowd.
At the scene, authorities recovered an AK47 rifle, 12 rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone, and four spent cartridges.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had hired a motorcycle to travel from Likoni Primary School to the Vyemani Grounds.
Upon reaching their destination, he allegedly refused to pay the fare, leading to a confrontation with the rider.
In an attempt to intimidate, the suspect pulled out the AK47, cocked it, and fired into the air.
This sparked a violent struggle as he tried to escape on the motorcycle, during which he discharged several rounds.
The commotion drew the attention of nearby residents, who quickly overpowered the armed man and administered lethal force.
Senior police officials and military personnel later arrived to manage the situation.
The deceased’s body has been transferred to Coast General Mortuary for identification and an autopsy, while the recovered firearm and other evidence have been secured at Inuka Police Station as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducts further inquiries.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious activities rather than resorting to mob justice.
Police reiterated that mob lynching is a criminal act, and suspects should always be handed over to law enforcement for proper legal processing.
