Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to travel to Egypt today to sign of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between Kenya and Egypt.
This visit marks a deepening of bilateral ties between the two nations, following a Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting held in March 2024, where four MOUs were signed.
These agreements covered trade and investments, agriculture, tourism, energy, and infrastructure development.
Mudavadi’s office confirmed that since the JCC meeting, both countries have finalized eight additional MOUs.
These agreements focus on political consultations, diplomatic training, investment facilitation, port cooperation, youth programs, higher education, gender equality, and women empowerment.
Egypt remains a significant trading partner for Kenya, being the country’s second-largest importer of tea after Pakistan.
Kenya’s exports to Egypt are valued at approximately $176.04 million annually, while imports from Egypt stand at around $340.10 million.
“Mudavadi will use the opportunity to lobby for the Egyptian support to the Rt Hon Raila Odinga’s candidature for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position in February,” the statement read.
