Authorities in Kahawa West, Kiambu County, are probing a femicide case following the discovery of a woman’s body in her boyfriend’s home on Friday, November 1.
This tragic incident highlights a concerning uptick in femicide across the nation.
The victim, identified as Lilian Achieng Aluko, was reportedly murdered by her boyfriend, who has since fled the scene.
Police have initiated a manhunt for the suspect, intensifying their efforts to bring him to justice.
Lilian, a popular presenter at Radio 44, was found with severe facial injuries and a stab wound in her back.
She had informed her family the previous day that she would be spending the night at her boyfriend’s place, making this the last time they would see her.
Her mother recounted that Lilian had left home around 11 a.m. and had initially mentioned visiting a friend. When she failed to return, her family grew concerned.
On Friday evening, her mother received a distressing call from an unknown number, informing her of Lilian’s death.
According to police reports, witnesses reported hearing loud noises and signs of a struggle coming from the apartment, but were unable to intervene due to the locked door and high volume of music playing inside.
A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, was found at the scene.
Lilian’s family is now urging the police to apprehend the suspect, who remains on the run.
Friends and relatives describe her as vibrant and full of life, expressing deep sorrow over her sudden passing.
“Her light has been extinguished too soon,” said her sister, emphasizing their desire for justice.
This incident comes amid growing concerns over femicide, with 97 women reported killed in the last three months, according to recent statistics from the National Police Service.
In response to the rising violence against women, President William Ruto has reiterated the government’s commitment to address these issues, emphasizing the need for both criminal and moral accountability.
“We must protect our women,” he stated during a recent address, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
