Police dog handler in hospital after bite by his own dog in Juja, Kiambu County


A police officer was rushed to hospital after a dog he was handling bite him in Juja, Kiambu County.

The officer, who is a handler, was on patrol in the area with the animal when it attempted to bite a civilian.

The handler restrained it but it became wild and turned on him, biting him on the right leg.

Police said the dog was later restrained and taken back to its kennel while the injured officer was taken to the hospital for anti rabies doses.

Police dogs are usually trained and given name tags before being deployed.

Officials said they are investigating the animal’s behavior for future actions. The incident happened on February 10 at night.

Meanwhile, a forest ranger was hacked and seriously wounded in a scuffle with a suspected poacher in Esageri, Koibatek, Baringo County.

The suspect used a panga to hack the ranger in the head in the scuffle on February 11, 2026, police said. This was after the victim and a colleague stumbled on the assailant while cutting trees in a local forest.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries following the attack while the assailant escaped on foot.

Police said they were pursuing the said assailant who is known in the area.

Meanwhile, an Australian national was arrested after landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after insulting and hitting two crew members aboard a Qatar Airways. This happened as the passenger was being asked to wear his safety belt as required by the aviation rules.

Witnesses said he turned violent and insulted a crew member and threw a cap at another one in the process. On landing at JKIA, he was detained pending arraignment for jeopardizing the good order and discipline aboard an aircraft.

Elsewhere in Lamu, two French nationals claimed they lost Sh250,000 from their hotel. Police said they are investigating the claims and that the money was in US dollars.
