President William Ruto is currently on a significant development tour across Western Kenya, which began with a cabinet meeting at Kakamega State Lodge on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Following the meeting, the president announced a historic sh150 million incentive for sugarcane farmers associated with the Mumias Sugar Company, marking a major step forward for the region’s struggling sugarcane industry.
The incentive aims to revitalize the local economy, which has long depended on sugar production, and is seen as a major boost for the sector, especially after years of challenges facing Mumias Sugar.

The move is expected to have a far-reaching impact on farmers and communities within the region, providing much-needed support for sustainable growth and productivity.
After the cabinet meeting, President Ruto also launched the last-mile electricity connectivity project in Shinyalu Constituency, a key initiative to improve electricity access in rural areas.
This is part of his broader development agenda, which includes enhancing infrastructure and uplifting communities that have long been left behind.

Ruto’s tour of Western Kenya is the first major visit since his party, UDA, merged with Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC, and it has drawn both support and mixed reactions from local political leaders.
Despite differing opinions, most residents have expressed their support for the president’s efforts, particularly for the development and unity he promises to bring to the region.
“We must remain united as one nation. Kenya has no room for leaders who seek to divide us along tribal lines,” President Ruto emphasized during his remarks.
The president’s schedule for the rest of the week includes several important visits and project launches.
On Wednesday, he will launch the Lower Nzoia Water project in Busia and inspect the Luanda Market in Vihiga County.

Additionally, he will visit Aseka Hospital in Kakamega to assess healthcare infrastructure in the area.
On Thursday, Ruto is set to check on the progress of the Alupe Dam project and commission electricity connectivity at Nambale Junction.
He will then travel to Bungoma to inspect development projects in the Kimilili and Webuye areas.
The tour will conclude on Friday with visits to selected markets in Bungoma and Busia counties, where the president will continue his assessment of local economic activities.
This tour is seen as a clear indication of Ruto’s commitment to ensuring equitable development across Kenya, with a focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and economic empowerment in key regions.
His efforts to unite the country through development projects resonate with many, as he seeks to build bridges and move the nation forward.
