President William Ruto arrived in Dubai on Tuesday for the two-day Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit, where he is set to address global leaders on energy transition.
The summit, centered around the theme “Exploring the Global Energy Transition,” serves as a platform for leaders to discuss sustainable practices and solutions for global energy challenges.
According to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, President Ruto will highlight Kenya’s prominent role in renewable energy, particularly geothermal power, and advocate for potential global partnerships to accelerate green growth.
“The President will focus on Kenya’s leadership in renewable energy, with particular emphasis on geothermal power, and will explore opportunities for collaboration to address energy challenges,” said Mohamed.
The ADSW Summit is a significant international forum that brings together top leaders to drive forward the global sustainability agenda.
In addition to his summit address, President Ruto is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with influential global figures, including His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
These discussions are expected to concentrate on enhancing collaboration in energy, trade, investment, and technology key pillars of Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
During the visit, Kenya and the UAE are anticipated to sign a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
This agreement aims to boost trade, investment, and development cooperation between the two nations.
“The CEPA will create a favorable environment for trade, simplify export procedures, and increase market access for Kenya’s goods and services,” Mohamed explained.
The UAE is one of Kenya’s major trade partners, ranking as the sixth-largest export destination for Kenyan goods, including tea, meat, fruits, vegetables, and flowers.
The signing of the CEPA follows the visit of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who traveled to the UAE earlier for bilateral talks and to finalize the details of the long-awaited trade agreement.
The CEPA, which is set to be signed between January 12 and 17, seeks to strengthen the economic ties between Kenya and the UAE by eliminating barriers to trade and fostering a free trade area.
According to the statement, the CEPA will give Kenya a unique opportunity to secure a mutually beneficial trade and development deal with the UAE, which is Kenya’s 7th largest export market.
The agreement is expected to significantly enhance economic cooperation and facilitate the exchange of goods, services, and investments between the two countries.
