Uasin Gishu Member of Parliament Gladys Boss Shollei has strongly criticized Nation Television (NTV) and other media outlets she accuses of spreading negative narratives against the government.
Speaking in Parliament, Shollei accused NTV of focusing on a story of doom and gloom, instead of acknowledging the progress made under President William Ruto’s leadership.
She labeled the media station as “unpatriotic” and “problematic” for its portrayal of the country’s current state.
“I want to address the unpatriotic media houses in this country, particularly NTV, which wrongly analyzed the State of the Nation address,” she said.
“Has the shilling strengthened? Has inflation dropped?
Every Kenyan knows that the prices of petroleum, unga, and electricity have all gone down.
These media houses should tell us where they’re getting their statistics.”
Shollei also challenged the media to investigate key issues themselves, including the state of the country’s food reserves and the distribution of fertilizers to farmers.
“I dare them to go to the granaries and film whether we have enough reserves of maize, beans, and wheat. Instead of sitting in their studios, they should go to the stores and show the evidence,” she said.
She further criticized NTV for not addressing several key developments, including the payments to farmers, the recent hiring of teachers, and the implementation of the new university funding model.
“Do they dispute that farmers are being paid sh50 per litre of milk? Or that students are now receiving up to 95% funding for their school fees?
They can’t just make up stories from their screens,” Shollei added.
The MP also praised President Ruto for taking steps to tackle femicide and gender-based violence in the country.
She emphasized the importance of prevention over reactive measures, urging parents to teach their children to avoid vulnerable situations.
“To prevent femicide and gender-based violence, we all need to be vigilant,” said Shollei.
“We should focus on educating our children to stay safe rather than only addressing the crime after it happens.”
