Homicide detectives apprehended a suspected serial killer believed to have claimed the lives of six individuals in Narok town over the past four months.
The suspect, identified as Stephen Oloichoki, also known as Ololung’a and Musa Sapia, was taken into custody during a coordinated operation involving multiple agencies, which resulted in the seizure of several mobile phones suspected to be linked to criminal activities.
The police initiated a manhunt for the suspect following a notable increase in reported murders in the region, supported by forensic evidence tracing back to him.
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Amin Mohamed stated that investigators conducted a thorough forensic analysis of the evidence related to the murders, which ultimately led to the identification of a dangerous serial killer on the loose.
The investigation commenced with a review of the crime scenes associated with the reported incidents and a detailed examination of CCTV footage that documented some of the events.
Among the cases reported to DCI Narok North was the incident involving Linet Mmbone, who was robbed and subsequently injured, later succumbing to her wounds.
Another violent robbery resulted in the death of Wycliff Weiseku Nyanchoka.
In September 2024, Joel Maina Kweri reportedly fell victim to the suspect, being robbed and brutally murdered.
Onyango Omollo was the fourth individual to lose his life in a similar fashion at the hands of the same perpetrator.
As the series of gruesome murders unsettled Narok town, Hillary Leken was also attacked and killed during this period.
The most recent murder attributed to the suspect involved Moses Sanigo.
A significant breakthrough for investigators occurred when a mobile phone stolen from one of the victims was recovered.
Forensic analysis of the data from the phone resulted in the apprehension of the suspect.
It was determined that the individual had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment but was released in March 2024 after serving 15 years.
Approximately one month following his release, the suspect became involved in a series of violent and fatal attacks in Narok township, specifically targeting local vendors.
A coordinated operation involving multiple agencies led to the arrest of three of his associates, during which several mobile phones believed to be obtained through criminal activities were seized by the police.
Reports indicate that the suspect employed a dagger, a sword, and a Maasai rungu to inflict fatal injuries on his victims.
The suspect was presented before the Narok Law Courts on Thursday, where he will be held for 21 days as investigations into the six murders and other violent offenses linked to him continue.
