Two individuals suspected of the murder of Willis Onyango, a human resources manager at Wells Fargo, are identified as brothers.
According to detectives, one of the suspects, George Oduor Okoth, is deceased, while the other, Victor Okoth Ouma, is currently in custody.
Police have confirmed that Oduor, the elder sibling, led Ouma into a life of crime.
Both brothers were known for their boxing skills and had a notable presence in the neighboring regions of Khwisero and Gem.
Investigators have determined that Oduor and his accomplices kidnapped Ayieko on the road and transported him to a residence in the vicinity, where he was held captive for several days while they extorted money and other valuables from him.
During this ordeal, they inflicted severe injuries on him by striking his head against a wall in an attempt to coerce his compliance.
The homeowner has been interrogated regarding the incident.
“These were highway robbers who have been operating in the area for a while. They were also feared in their village by virtue of them being boxers,” said an official aware of the probe.
Oduor was killed on Thursday, October 31, during a confrontation with law enforcement in Kisumu town, where a firearm was recovered from him.
He was ambushed by police at a guest house located opposite Kisumu National Polytechnic.
Authorities reported that he was prepared for a gunfight, gripping his Smith and Wesson pistol.
Previously, Oduor had evaded capture, leaving behind a rolling vehicle and a seriously injured female passenger, who later succumbed to her injuries.
In the attempt to subdue him, Oduor sustained fatal injuries, according to police reports. The recovered firearm contained three live rounds, among other items.
During the encounter, he attempted to fire at the officers, which led to an exchange of gunfire resulting in his death around midday on October 31.
This incident raised the total number of suspects killed in connection with the case to two.
Law enforcement is actively searching for at least two additional suspects linked to the murder of Ayieko.
Another suspect, who had been injured in a shootout in Gem, passed away in the hospital on Wednesday morning.
This individual had been transported to a medical facility in Yala, Siaya County, where she ultimately succumbed to injuries sustained during a police shooting in Wangai, Gem.
According to police, she was one of two female suspects apprehended earlier that Wednesday in a dramatic pursuit.
In Siaya, within the Gem Wagai sub-county, authorities recovered a pistol that belonged to Ayieko, which had been stolen from him on the night of his murder.
The recovery operation was initiated following a report from the public, indicating that two individuals—one male and one female—were observed with a firearm in a Toyota Axio at Wagai Trading Centre.
In response, officers from Wagai Police Station attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle; however, the male driver disregarded their commands and opened fire on the police while fleeing towards Luanda, according to police reports.
This led to a high-speed pursuit that concluded at Adder Farm in the Kagilo area, where the vehicle lost control and overturned on its left side.
The driver managed to escape the scene, leaving the female passenger behind, who was found injured and unconscious.
The driver was later reported deceased in Kisumu on Thursday.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, law enforcement officials discovered a pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, which had been identified as the firearm stolen from Ayieko.
The female passenger was transported to a hospital in Yala but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries a few hours later, as reported by the police.
An intensified search for the fleeing suspect led Gem Yala detectives to his rented residence at Sagam Trading Centre in Kanyibwop village, where they recovered a jungle green sweater, military shorts, two pairs of desert storm jungle boots, two television sets (40″ and 32″), an HP laptop, and a Rolex watch, among other items. Detectives are currently pursuing at least six suspects in connection with the murder of Ayieko.
To date, four individuals have been apprehended, with one identified as being present at the location of the assault. Two of the suspects succumbed to injuries sustained during a gunfight.
Among those detained is Ouma, who was captured in the Dandora estate of Nairobi and subsequently presented at the Siaya Law Courts on Wednesday.
Authorities have been authorized to hold the suspect for 21 days as part of their investigation. According to police reports, forensic analysis has linked Ouma to the crime scene.
Additionally, it is alleged that he conducted transactions using Ayieko’s mobile phone, which he utilized to withdraw funds from his account.
