A tragic road accident on Saturday morning along the Butula-Bumala Road in Busia County claimed the lives of two people, including a five-year-old girl.
The accident occurred when the driver of a private vehicle, reportedly speeding, lost control in the Mashinani area of Murumba while attempting to navigate a corner.
The vehicle collided head-on with a bodaboda operator and his young passenger, the girl, both of whom died instantly.
The driver of the vehicle and his female passenger, aged 36, were injured in the crash.
The driver sustained minor chest injuries and several cuts to his hands, while the woman suffered serious injuries to her head and chest.
Both were quickly transported to Busia County Referral Hospital for medical attention.
Police have confirmed that the scene was examined, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Same Day Classmate Funeral Parlor for postmortem.
The vehicles involved were towed to Murumba Police Post for inspection as investigations continue into the cause of the accident. The case has been classified as PUI (pending further investigation).
