A family is in mourning following a tragic incident in which a woman unintentionally struck and killed her two-year-old son while working on a piece of land in Meru County.
The incident occurred in the Kionyo area of Nkubu on Saturday, November 2, according to police reports.
The woman had taken her son to the farm for work when the accident transpired.
She informed the authorities that she had positioned her son a few meters away as she began digging.
While she was engaged in her task, the child slipped and fell directly in front of her, resulting in her accidentally striking him on the back of the head with a fork jembe.
The child suffered a severe laceration and was immediately taken to a private clinic at Kionyo Market for initial treatment.
Subsequently, he was transferred to Consolata Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The infant’s body has been transferred to the Kanyakine Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending a postmortem examination.
In a separate incident in Mitunguu, Meru County, the body of a woman was discovered on a feeder road in Ntitu village, located within the Rwompo sub-location.
Authorities have identified her as Hellen Mugure, 30, noting that she sustained injuries to her head, neck, and legs, which were accompanied by blood stains.
Her spouse was subsequently apprehended in connection with the murder.
Several wooden sticks, which were stained with blood, were retrieved and preserved as evidence.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the motive behind the incident was domestic in nature.
The deceased was transported to the Kanyakine Hospital morgue, where an autopsy is awaited.
In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man named Livingston Mwangi Nyoike was discovered deceased in a residence on Biashara Street, close to Quininos Hall in the Pangani area.
