36 Individuals Charged With Terrorism Over Protests


At least 36 people were Thursday charged with terrorism over destruction of property in the recent protests in parts of Central Kenya and Machakos

 

The accused persons were charged following their arrest in the Kikuyu and Matuu areas of Kiambu and Machakos Counties, respectively.

The court heard  that 24 accused persons including, Daniel Wanyoike, George Kinyua,Alex Ng’ang’a ,Jackson Muiruru, Frankline Mwangi,Sharon Bosibori,Issack Solomon,Erick Njiri,Innocent Shiminana,Lewis Nibobora, Erick Njenga,Samwuel Mburu,Marriam Njeri,Jones Kinyanjui, Joseph Kinyanjui,Issack Shaibu, Lawrance Njari, Benjamin Maroo, Everlyne Wairimu, Simon Kiruiru, Brian Thuranira, Paul Njoroge, Peter Mwangi and Newton Muriuki allegedly  committed a terrorist act on 25th June 2025, between 12:00 PM and 11:00 PM in the Kikuyu, which  resulted in damage to government facilities, including Kikuyu Probation Offices, Kikuyu Law Courts, Kikuyu Sub-County Offices, Kikuyu Chief’s Office, the Office of the Registrar of Persons, Kikuyu Sub-County Education Office, the Sub-County Accountant’s Office, Registrar of Lands Office, Dagoretti Police Post and the Kikuyu Deputy County Commissioner’s Office.

The 24 accused persons were also charged with arson, with an alternative charge of malicious damage to property.

 

They were charged alongside two other individuals, Peter Kinyanjui Wanjiru, alias Kawanjiru, and Serah Wanjiku Thiga, who faced similar charges.

 

The DPP further charged 10 other individuals arrested in Matuu, Machakos County, with terrorism charges.

 

They are alleged to have committed a terrorist act on 25th June 2025 at Matuu Police Station, leading to the destruction of government property, including police vehicles.

The accused persons are Nzau Kaloki, Charles Musyoka, Allan Munene, Munyao Paul, Mwau Katungwa, Titus Maundu, Lawrence Ochieng, Jack Leterongos, Jackson Lenguris, and James Lesamana.

 

They were also charged with three counts of assaulting police officers on duty and three other charges of malicious damage to property.

 

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges before Hon. Gideon Kiaga.

 

The Director of Public Prosecutions has opposed the release of accused persons on bond.
