Caroline Mutoko and I paid Martha Karua Sh21 million over ‘defamation’, Nyambane discloses

Former Redykyulas comedian Walter Mong’are, known to many as Nyambane has reminisced on the time he and former radio co-host Caroline Mutoko faced a serious Sh21 million legal suit filed by politician Martha Karua.

Nairobi News understands Nyambane and Mutoko were slapped with the law suit during their prime time, hosting the biggest breakfast show on Kiss 100.

Well, the two unknowingly infuriated Martha Karua during one of their shows on the station, leading to serious defamation court case against them.

Speaking recently during and interview with Chris Da Bass on his Tubonge podcast, the comedian turned politician claimed that he was enjoined in the legal suit despite never saying anything against Karua.

“Caroline and I were on air one moment, and I think she was very upset with Martha Karua. And whatever went on that morning, I never said anything that would implicate me or get me to the corridors of justice. But Martha sued us. We paid her Sh21 million.

I never said anything against her. I never uttered anything that would be injurious to her, but of course, my co-host was very upset. She went on and on, and I was like Caroline, we need to let it go, but she was very upset.

There was the fact that I did not understand what was going on, and I am trying to tell Caroline, let’s go easy on this and the next thing, you have a lawsuit against it, the judgment has been made, and you have to pay KSh 21 million for that,” Nyambane revealed.

The former comedian reiterated that Karua sued them individually and not as Kiss 100, which presented them with an unfortunate bottleneck situation.

According to Nyambane, their employer Patrick Quarco came to their rescue he they found ways to deduct the amount from their salaries and benefits over time.

Despite having gone through all that, Nyambane discloses he has never revisited the matter even after bumping into Martha Karua in a series of political events.

“We were sued as individuals, not as a radio station. It was enjoined, but Caroline and I were in the docks, and I was wondering what I’m doing here, but that is what it means to take a shot for your partner. Martha and I speak about the country, we partner where we need to, but we don’t talk about that case. She might remember that there was a balance,”he added.

Nyambane’s revelation came quite as a surprise to many Kenya since he has never disclosed it before, neither has Caroline Mutoko.

A number of netizens who camped in the comments section of Chris Da Bass’s video post sympathised with Nyambane and Mutoko.

Many who pitied the two legendary radio personalities thanked the former comedian for reminding them that Kenya has always been a man eat man society.
