The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made significant strides in its ongoing efforts to combat corruption and fraud in the public sector by arresting four public officials who were found using fraudulent academic certificates.
This crackdown highlights the commission’s commitment to ensuring that public officers possess the necessary qualifications for their roles.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed that the arrests took place on Wednesday, targeting individuals believed to be misrepresenting their educational backgrounds.
Among those apprehended is Edna Bitange, who serves as an assistant elections officer at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Mark Chebitwey, another public official working within the commission’s revenue allocation department, was also detained during this operation.
The other two individuals implicated in this scandal are Francis Mfundi, an employee at the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority, and Brenda Sulungai, who works as a community development assistant at the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company.
These arrests have sparked considerable public interest and concern regarding the integrity of public service positions.
The four officials are scheduled to appear in the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court today, October 31, where they will face multiple charges related to the forgery of academic certificates.
This case is part of a larger initiative by the EACC aimed at rooting out fraudulent practices among public officers and restoring trust in government institutions.
As the commission continues its investigations, it remains dedicated to holding accountable those who violate the standards of public service.
This crackdown is essential not only for upholding the rule of law but also for ensuring that qualified individuals occupy positions of authority, ultimately benefiting the wider society.
The EACC’s efforts serve as a warning to those considering fraudulent practices in their professional lives.
