Fred Matiang’i appointed Jubilee deputy party leader, endorsed as 2027 presidential candidate

The Jubilee Party has appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader and endorsed him as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

The decision was made during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on October 30, which was chaired virtually by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The announcement follows earlier statements by the party’s Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, that Jubilee would back Matiang’i in the upcoming presidential race.

Speaking after the meeting, Kioni confirmed Matiang’i’s new roles, saying, “We have received and formally accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag. We have appointed Dr. Fred Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward.”

In addition to endorsing Matiang’i, the NEC discussed party structure and strategy, focusing on strengthening grassroots operations.

The party resolved to revamp its organization by opening new branches, engaging existing members, and attracting new supporters.

Several vacant leadership positions were also filled during the meeting. Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was appointed National Assembly Whip, while Senator James Lomenen will serve as Senate Whip.

The party says these moves aim to position Jubilee for stronger influence in the upcoming elections while consolidating its leadership and organizational framework.
