How to Add Voice Over on TikTok

TikTok offers a variety of creative tools that allow users to enhance their videos with effects, filters, and audio. One popular feature is the voice over, which lets you narrate, explain, or add commentary to your video. Whether you’re telling a story, explaining a process, or simply adding humor, voice overs can significantly boost the engagement and clarity of your content.

  1. Start by Recording or Uploading Your Video

To begin, open the TikTok app and tap the plus (+) button at the bottom center of the screen. From here, you can either record a new video by holding the red record button or upload an existing one from your gallery. Once you’re satisfied with the clip, tap the checkmark to move to the editing screen.

  1. Access the Voice Over Tool

On the editing screen, you’ll see several icons on the right-hand side. Tap on the “Voice Over” option, which is represented by a microphone symbol. This will take you to the voice over interface, where you can choose the parts of the video where you want your narration to appear.

  1. Record Your Voice Over

Press and hold the red record button to begin recording your voice over. You can choose to narrate the entire video or specific sections. As you speak, your voice is recorded and layered over the video. If there’s background audio or music already present, you have the option to keep or mute it by selecting the “Keep original sound” checkbox at the bottom before recording.

  1. Review and Save the Voice Over

Once your voice over is complete, tap the play button to preview your work. If you’re satisfied with the result, tap “Save” in the upper-right corner to apply the voice over to your video. This brings you back to the main editing screen where you can continue customizing your content with effects, text, or stickers.

  1. Post Your Video

When everything looks and sounds right, tap “Next” to proceed to the posting screen. Here, you can add a caption, choose your audience, and adjust privacy settings. Finally, tap “Post” to share your video with your followers, or “Drafts” to save it for later.
