How to Stop Seeing Reposts on TikTok

TikTok’s algorithm is known for curating a personalized feed of content tailored to user interests, but sometimes users notice an influx of reposted videos appearing on their For You Page. While reposts can help interesting content go viral, not everyone enjoys seeing the same videos multiple times, especially when they have already seen or interacted with them before. If you’re looking for ways to stop or reduce seeing reposts on TikTok, there are a few steps you can take to improve your viewing experience. Here is how to stop seeing reposts on TikTok.

Understanding Reposts on TikTok

Reposts on TikTok are videos that users have chosen to share with their followers again, similar to retweets on Twitter. These videos usually appear with a yellow “Reposted by [username]” tag. While reposting is meant to boost visibility of popular content, it can lead to repetition, which some users find irritating.

TikTok does not currently offer a specific setting to completely block reposted content. However, there are a few actions users can take to minimize the appearance of such videos.

Use the “Not Interested” Option

One of the most effective ways to signal to TikTok’s algorithm that you don’t want to see reposts is by using the “Not Interested” feature. When you come across a reposted video you don’t want to see, tap and hold the video until a menu pops up. Select “Not Interested.” This tells the algorithm that you’re not interested in similar content. Doing this repeatedly on reposted content can help reduce how often it appears in your feed.

Additionally, if the reposted video is from a specific user whose content or reposts you don’t like, you can choose to hide content from that creator using the same menu.

Turn Off Repost Feature on Your Account

While this doesn’t stop you from seeing reposts by others, turning off the repost feature on your own account can limit your interaction with the repost system. To do this, go to your profile, tap the three-line menu at the top right corner, select “Settings and privacy,” then go to “Privacy” and choose “Repost.” You’ll find an option to toggle off reposts on your account. This may not remove reposts from your feed, but it prevents you from unintentionally contributing to the spread of reposted content.

Refresh Your Content Preferences

If your feed is overwhelmed with repetitive or irrelevant reposts, refreshing your content preferences can help. This includes regularly using the “Not Interested” option, following creators whose content you genuinely enjoy, and engaging with new and diverse videos. The more you interact with original content, the more likely TikTok’s algorithm will prioritize those kinds of videos for your feed.

Limit Following Accounts That Frequently Repost

Sometimes, reposted videos come from users you follow. If you notice that a particular user constantly reposts videos and they dominate your feed, consider unfollowing them. To do this, visit their profile and tap the “Following” button to unfollow. This can help you gain more control over the kind of content you see.
