How to Turn Off Live on TikTok

TikTok Live is a powerful feature that allows users to broadcast real-time content to their followers. However, there are times when you may want to end a live session, disable the Live feature entirely, or prevent others from going live on your account. Whether you’re a content creator looking to wrap up your live stream or a user wanting more control over your TikTok experience, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know about how to turn off Live on TikTok.

How to End a Live Session on TikTok

If you are currently broadcasting on TikTok Live and want to end the session, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the ‘X’ Button
While live streaming, you will see an X button at the top-right corner of the screen. Tap on it.
  2. Confirm to End the Live
A confirmation prompt will appear asking if you really want to end the live stream. Tap “End Now” or “Confirm” to stop broadcasting.
  3. Review Live Summary (Optional)
After the stream ends, TikTok will show you a brief summary including the number of viewers, likes, and comments. You can review this or simply exit.

How to Disable TikTok Live from Your Account

TikTok does not currently allow users to disable the Live feature entirely via the settings if they meet the eligibility criteria. However, here are a few ways to avoid going Live or reduce interaction with the Live feature:

  1. Avoid Tapping the Live Option

On the create video screen, TikTok offers different modes like “Camera,” “Templates,” and “LIVE.” Simply avoid selecting the LIVE tab when creating content.

  1. Switch to Private Account

If you want to limit who sees your content, consider switching to a private account:

  • Go to Profile
  • Tap the three lines (☰) in the top-right corner
  • Select Settings and Privacy
  • Tap Privacy
  • Toggle on Private account

Note: This doesn’t turn off Live but limits your exposure.

  1. Parental Controls or Screen Time Management

If you want to prevent your children or dependents from accessing or using the Live feature, use Family Pairing or TikTok’s Screen Time Management tools:

  • Go to Settings and Privacy
  • Tap Digital Wellbeing
  • Enable Screen Time Management or Restricted Mode

How to Avoid Seeing TikTok Lives

If you’re not a content creator but simply want to stop seeing Live videos on your feed:

  • Swipe Past Lives on For You Page: When Lives appear while scrolling, swipe up quickly.
  • Tap ‘Not Interested’: Press and hold on the Live thumbnail and select “Not Interested” to reduce similar content in the future.
  • Mute or Block Accounts: For Lives that are repetitive or annoying, consider muting or blocking those specific creators.

What to Do if You Want TikTok Live Disabled for Safety Reasons

If you believe the Live feature on your account is being misused or if someone else has access to your account:

  1. Change Your Password Immediately
  2. Log Out of All Devices
  3. Enable Two-Factor Authentication
  4. Report to TikTok Support via the Help Center
