Authorities in Busia have launched an investigation into the suspicious death of a Form Two student, whose body was discovered by neighbors showing signs of injury.
The boy’s uncle, Daniel Barasa, revealed that there were conflicting reports about the cause of death. Initially, the family was told that the boy had been bitten by a snake.
However, further inquiries uncovered a different account from the boy’s sister, who claimed that he had left the house on Christmas Day to attend church without asking for permission.
Upon returning, he was reportedly caned, and later, his lifeless body was discovered.
“We are confused about what happened between him returning from church and his subsequent death,” Barasa said.
“We demand justice, and the mother, who lived with him, needs to explain what happened.”
Anthony Wafula, the boy’s uncle, recounted finding the body in a severely disfigured state.
He reported the incident to the police, who directed the family to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“We want justice to be served,” Wafula emphasized.
While the boy’s mother was initially detained as a suspect, she was later released on bail.
The father of the deceased, Emmanuel Nakitare, expressed his shock and distress upon seeing his son’s injuries.
“What I saw was heartbreaking. My son was tortured,” Nakitare said, noting that his son had visible bruises and head wounds.
He further revealed that he does not live with the boy but received the news of his death from neighbors.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
