LoDDCA Demands Resignation Of NTSA Director General Over Damning Audit Report

The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA) has called for the immediate resignation of National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director General George Njao, citing gross incompetence and systemic failures exposed in a recent audit report.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, LoDDCA also demanded the resignation of NTSA’s Head of Licensing and called for the complete disbandment of the Authority, which it accuses of failing to uphold road safety and accountability.

The uproar follows revelations from Auditor General Nancy Gathungu, whose latest report uncovered serious operational flaws within NTSA particularly its lack of control over the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) portal, which is used by motorists for vehicle registration, driver endorsement, and licensing services.

According to the report, NTSA’s loss of oversight over the TIMS platform has opened the door to potential revenue leakages, data manipulation, and serious cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

Gathungu also disclosed that there was no formal contract for NTSA’s adoption of the new system, which was migrated to the E-Citizen platform despite a Ksh186 million government investment.

LoDDCA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Mutua said the audit findings validated long-standing concerns raised by the association.

“We at LoDDCA have consistently raised alarm over the flawed driver endorsement system. Now, a damning audit report confirms our fears,” Mutua said.

“How safe are Kenyan roads when driver credentials can be manipulated? The NTSA management just needs to be disbanded, starting with the Director General and Head of Licensing,” he added.

The Auditor General further revealed that although NTSA has decentralised revenue-generating services across regional offices, the current system cannot generate data by region.

This, she noted, has made it impossible to track how revenue is distributed or utilised per location raising serious questions about transparency and fiscal accountability.

The LoDDCA now says the only viable path forward is a full overhaul of NTSA and a fresh leadership structure committed to restoring trust in the authority’s operations.

As public pressure mounts, NTSA is yet to issue a formal response to either the audit findings or LoDDCA’s demands.
