Busia County Senator Okiya Omtatah has established a Presidential Exploratory Committee to assess the viability of his potential presidential bid for the August 2027 General Election.
The announcement was made through a gazette notice dated November 22, 2024, where Omtatah outlined the primary goal of the committee, which is to gather, analyze, and evaluate information on his candidacy.
“Pursuant to Article 129, as read together with Article 138 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, it is notified for the information of the general public that Andrew Okiya Omtatah Okoiti,
The Senator of the Republic of Kenya elected by the great people of Busia County, has established a Presidential Exploratory Committee,” the notice reads in part.
Mary Kathomi Riungu has been appointed as the Chairperson of the committee, responsible for coordinating its activities and ensuring the timely delivery of outputs.
She will be supported by Charles Ole Kabaiku, who will serve as the Deputy Chairperson and also handle diaspora matters as the Diaspora Coordinator.
Other members of the committee include David John Bwakali, who will serve as the Political and Grassroots Strategist, advising on political trends and opportunities.
Victor Kipng’etich has been appointed the Legal Advisor, ensuring the committee’s operations comply with electoral laws.
Hanifa Adan will manage the committee’s public relations and media outreach as the Public Relations/Media Consultant.
Jude Ogulla will oversee data analytics, conducting opinion polls and surveys to gauge public sentiment. Purity Ndambuki and Emmanuel Baraka will act as Joint Secretaries, ensuring the smooth functioning of the committee, while Kevin Migwe Kimwatu will serve as the Committee Spokesperson.
Julius Okara (Eng.) has been named as the Patron, offering strategic guidance to the team.
The committee’s term will last for up to 18 months from the date of publication.
It will be dissolved once Omtatah either announces his candidacy or decides not to run.
At that point, all activities, assets, and records will be transferred to the relevant campaign or political entities.
The committee will focus on several key tasks, including conducting political viability assessments through opinion polls, engaging with political stakeholders, developing a campaign strategy, ensuring legal compliance with electoral laws, managing media relations, and planning for fundraising and resource mobilization.
