Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has addressed a comment made during a post-match press conference in which he was asked about a scratch on his face.
The manager said he was caught off guard by the question and explained that the mark was caused by a sharp fingernail.
Guardiola clarified that his response was never meant to trivialize the serious topic of self-harm.
In a statement following the press conference, Guardiola expressed his awareness of the struggles many people face with mental health and emphasized the importance of seeking support.
“I know that many people struggle with mental health issues every day,” he said. “I would like to take this moment to highlight one of the ways people can seek help, by calling the Samaritans hotline on 116 123.”
In a dramatic UEFA Champions League match, Manchester City faced Feyenoord and initially took a commanding lead.
The game began positively for City, with Erling Haaland scoring twice and Ilkay Gündoğan adding another goal.
By the 70th minute, City was ahead 3-0, seemingly on their way to a comfortable victory.
However, the match took a sudden and unexpected turn in the final quarter-hour.
Feyenoord capitalized on defensive lapses from City, scoring three goals in quick succession.
The first goal came from a well-placed shot that caught City’s defense off guard.
This was followed by a second goal resulting from a critical defensive error by Josko Gvardiol, which allowed Feyenoord to exploit space and find the net again.
In stoppage time, Feyenoord completed their remarkable comeback with an equalizer that stunned both City players and fans alike.
This collapse not only cost City two crucial points but also underscored ongoing issues within the squad.
The draw with Feyenoord was part of a troubling trend for Manchester City, marking their sixth consecutive match without a win across all competitions.
This period included five losses, which is unusual for a team of City’s stature and quality.
Several factors have contributed to this poor form. Firstly, City has struggled defensively, conceding two or more goals in several matches during this stretch.
Key players have been out of form or injured, leading to instability at the back.
The team has also shown a lack of concentration in critical moments, as evidenced by their inability to hold onto leads.
