Police Detain Two Women With Sh70 Million In Fake US Dollars

Detectives from the DCI Nairobi regional office apprehended two women in possession of substantial quantities of counterfeit US dollars.

They had USD560,000 papers equivalent to approximately Sh70 million.

Acting on solid intelligence, detectives conducted a well-coordinated operation in Upper Hill where they arrested the female suspects, Ifrah Ali Jeyte and Qamar Salat Abdi.

A swift search revealed numerous bundles of 100 USD denomination notes cleverly concealed in a handbag.

The magnitude of their operation became evident when officers conducted a count of the counterfeit currency at DCI Nairobi Area Headquarters.

Both suspects were detained in custody, undergoing processing as detectives prepare for their arraignment.

Officials said they are investigating if some of the papers had been circulated to the market. Such money negatively affects the economy at large.

Police said they had intensified operations against the cartels behind fake dollars and gold in the country which has led to the arrest of dozens of suspects in the racket.

Meanwhile, while acting on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, law enforcement officers from Gesonso Police Station in Kisii South Sub-County intercepted a suspected drug trafficker, seizing a substantial haul of cannabis sativa.

The officers mounted a roadblock along the Migori–Kisumu Highway, flagging down a suspicious, dark grey Toyota Sienta.

Instead of complying, the driver defied orders, ramming over metal spikes in a desperate bid to escape.

A chase ensued before the vehicle was finally immobilised after all its tyres were deflated.

The driver, 43-year-old John Njomo Ndung’u, was swiftly arrested as he attempted to flee on foot.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of five and a half gunny bags of cannabis sativa, now secured as exhibits alongside the impounded vehicle.

The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment.
