President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto warmly welcomed King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands to State House Nairobi as part of their three-day State Visit to Kenya.
The royal couple received a red-carpet welcome, accompanied by a display of Kenya’s military traditions, including a ceremonial 21-gun salute, symbolizing the respect and strong diplomatic ties between Kenya and the Netherlands.

Following the salute, King Willem-Alexander inspected the Guard of Honour, which was mounted by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
During the event, the King and Queen greeted other dignitaries present before proceeding with their official engagements.
The Dutch royals had arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi on Monday evening, where they were received by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, and other government officials.

The visit is focused on strengthening ties between the two nations, with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima set to hold high-level discussions with President Ruto and other Kenyan leaders.
The talks will cover governance, peace and security, and economic development.
Additionally, the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in sectors such as tourism, trade, and agriculture is expected to boost investment opportunities and business relations between Kenya and the Netherlands.
As part of their visit, the King and Queen will also plant a tree in Nairobi, supporting President Ruto’s ambitious tree-planting initiative aimed at growing 15 billion trees by 2032 to enhance Kenya’s forest cover.
