President William Ruto arrived in Kampala, Uganda, for the African Union Commission Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
The summit aims to address critical issues related to agricultural development and food security, with African leaders and stakeholders in attendance.
Earlier in the week, President Ruto participated in the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana’s newly elected President, John Dramani Mahama, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
This ceremony marked a significant moment for both Ghana and the broader African continent. In his inaugural speech, President Mahama assured businesses and investors that Ghana is committed to growth, with plans for a more transparent tax regime and a 24-hour economy.
In their December 2024 meeting, President Ruto and President Mahama discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya and Ghana, particularly in areas like trade, agriculture, mining, and tourism.
They also aimed to create more opportunities for citizens to engage in trade and business between the two nations.
While in Accra, President Ruto also held discussions with Presidents Faure Gnassingbé of Togo, Gideon Boko of Botswana, and Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue of Equatorial Guinea.
The talks focused on Africa’s transformation, stressing the importance of inclusive dialogue, regional integration, and peace and security.
President Ruto highlighted the potential of the Tripartite Free Trade Area, encompassing COMESA, EAC, and SADC, which aims to create a market of 700 million people.
He further emphasized that increased investment in agriculture, trade, and tourism will drive Africa’s growth and development.
President Ruto also met with the UK’s Minister for Africa, Lord Collins, discussing stability in the Great Lakes region and the importance of peace for Africa’s progress.
