“She left me at church because I was broke,” Dr Ofweneke opens up about painful past

Celebrated comedian and radio host Dr. Ofweneke has opened up about one of the darkest and most painful moments of his life; the day his lover left him during a New Year Crossover ‘kesha’ at a church because he was broke.

Speaking during his Chemba Show on Radio 47 on Friday, October 24, 2025, the comedian revealed that his then girlfriend dumped him as he waited for her at church after realising he couldn’t afford the kind of lifestyle she desired.

“The lady ditched me at the church. She did that because she wasn’t sure my comedy would ever pay off. But I’m glad she did because at least I knew who was for me and who was not,” Ofweneke said.

“All I’m asking is that ladies need to be patient with their men. Just give him time. Just relax, a day is coming,” he added.

According to the funnyman, his ex-lover did not believe in his comedy career and feared he would not be able to sustain a family on a comedian’s income.

Now, years later, Dr. Ofweneke says the painful experience taught him an important lesson about patience, loyalty, and faith in one’s partner.

Speaking in a candid exclusive phone interview with Nairobi News, the comedian revealed that he is glad the lady dumped him.

According to the comic, the rejection made him work hard to become the popular brand he is today.

“My girlfriend alinidump church siku ya kesha, New Year because sikukua nimemake it. And am greatful she dumped me because that heartbreak ndio ilifanya nika work hard,” Ofweneke told Nairobi News.

A Message to Women: “Be Patient With Your Men”

Ofweneke used the moment to urge women to stand by their struggling men instead of abandoning them because of financial hardships.

“No man is born successful, every man is made. Women need to be patient and believe in their men when they’re still struggling. You may leave him today, but tomorrow when things work out, you’ll regret it,” he advised.

The Radio 47 presenter emphasised that men deeply value women who supported them during their tough times and often share their success with those who stood by them through thick and thin.

“If you came into a man’s life after he made money, you’ll be treated as one of his assets. But if you were there when he was building, you’ll be part of the success,” Ofweneke stated.

He also warned that second wives and side chicks often lose out in the long run, as men are more likely to prioritise the women who were with them from the beginning.

Mixed Reactions From Fans

Ofweneke’s candid confession sparked a wave of mixed reactions online.

While some agreed with his sentiments, others felt that men often abandon the women who supported them once they become successful.
