A chief from Wajir County and a Huduma Centre official have been charged at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly tampering with national identity details.
Chief Abdullahi Abdi Sheikh is accused of falsifying his date of birth, changing it from 1997 to 1987.
The prosecution claims that Sheikh also provided false information to obtain a birth entry number, despite already possessing a valid birth certificate from 1997.
His co-accused, Veronica Njenga, a senior clerical officer at the Nairobi City Square Huduma Centre, is charged with unlawfully altering Sheikh’s identity details.
She also faces an abuse of office charge under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.

Njenga’s lawyer requested lenient bond terms, highlighting her nearly 30 years of public service and clean record.
In response, Magistrate Isabella Barasa granted the accused bond of sh. 1.5 million or an alternative cash bail of sh. 300,000. Both individuals were also ordered to surrender their passports.
The case is scheduled for mention next week for pre-trial directions.
