Deleting and Re-uploading the Video
If you’ve already shared a TikTok video but want to change something like the caption, hashtags, or cover image, your best option is to delete the original video and re-upload a new version. To do this, open the TikTok app and navigate to your profile by tapping the profile icon at the bottom right of the screen. Find the video you want to change and open it. Tap the three dots on the right side of the screen to open the options menu. From there, select “Delete” and confirm.

Once the video has been deleted, go back to the original video file in your phone’s gallery or within TikTok’s drafts, if it was saved there. You can then make the necessary changes before uploading it again. This is your chance to update the caption, add or remove hashtags, tag friends, adjust privacy settings, or choose a new cover image that better represents the content. After you’ve made the edits, post the video as you normally would.
Saving Your Drafts Before Posting
TikTok provides an option to save your videos as drafts before sharing them publicly. If you anticipate needing to make changes, it’s a good idea to save your content as a draft first. This gives you time to review your video thoroughly, check for any errors, and get feedback from friends or collaborators before it’s visible to the public. While in the draft stage, you can go back and make changes to the video itself, including trimming clips, adjusting effects, or updating captions.
Making Edits to Comments and Descriptions
While TikTok doesn’t currently allow users to edit captions or comments on already published videos, you can interact with your audience through the comments section to clarify or add extra information. For example, if you forgot to include a crucial detail in the caption, you can pin a comment under the video with that information. This isn’t a perfect fix, but it helps you maintain communication with your viewers and provide updates without needing to remove the video.
Keeping Up with Future Updates
TikTok frequently updates its features based on user feedback and platform developments. While the current version does not support direct editing of posted videos, the company may introduce this functionality in the future. It’s a good idea to keep your app updated and pay attention to new features as they roll out, especially if editing published content becomes a priority for many users.
