TikTok is a global platform that supports many different languages. Whether you’re more comfortable using the app in your native language or you’re learning a new one, TikTok gives you the option to switch to a language of your choice. Changing the language is easy and takes just a few taps inside the app.
Accessing the Language Settings
To begin, open your TikTok app and make sure you are logged in. From the home screen, tap the profile icon at the bottom right to go to your account. Once you’re on your profile page, tap the three horizontal lines or menu icon in the top-right corner. This will open the settings and privacy menu.
Scroll down the settings menu until you find the option labeled “Language.” This is where you can manage the app’s language settings. Tap on it to continue.
Selecting Your Preferred Language
Inside the language settings, you will see an option called “App Language.” Tap on it to view a list of languages supported by TikTok. Scroll through the list and select the one you prefer. TikTok supports a wide range of global languages including English, French, Swahili, Hindi, Mandarin, and many more.
Once you tap on your selected language, a prompt will appear asking you to confirm the change. Confirm your choice, and the app will reload in the language you have selected. The new language will apply to menus, buttons, and settings across the app.
What to Expect After Changing Language
Changing the language on TikTok does not affect the content you see on your For You Page or your following list. The videos you see will still be in various languages based on your interests, location, and the accounts you follow. However, TikTok may start recommending content in the language you’ve selected, especially if that language is linked to a specific region.

If you ever want to switch back to your original language, you can return to the language settings and repeat the same steps.
Helpful Tip for Multilingual Users
TikTok also allows you to add “Preferred Languages” under your content preferences. This helps the platform recommend videos in languages you understand, even if your app language is set to just one. To find this option, go to settings and privacy, then tap “Content preferences,” and select “Preferred languages.”
