Police in Nandi County are searching for a suspect who fled after being found transporting 1,350 litres of a liquid believed to be ethanol on Friday, September 12.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Ndurio Police Post flagged down a white Toyota Harrier at a roadblock in Ndurio Trading Centre.
The driver made a sudden U-turn to evade the checkpoint, prompting a police chase. He later abandoned the vehicle, which was recovered and taken to Kobujoi Police Station.
Inside the car, officers discovered 45 jerricans each holding 30 litres of the suspected ethanol.

They also recovered three sets of number plates, two rolls of cannabis sativa, a mobile phone, and a laminated smart driving licence.
The vehicle and all recovered items were secured as evidence, NPS said in a statement.
In a separate incident, police in Tana River County arrested two individuals during a daytime patrol in Bura.
Each was found with 40 litres of illicit brew, which was also confiscated as evidence.
“The National Police Service commends the officers for their vigilance and remains committed to the fight against illicit brews, which continue to pose a serious threat to public health and safety,” the NPS stated.
