KWS says no free entry to Lake Nakuru Park on Saturday

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has clarified that there will be no free entry to Lake Nakuru National Park on Saturday, September 27, 2025, despite an earlier government announcement.

The government had declared that all Kenyans would enjoy free entry to KWS-managed parks, reserves, and sanctuaries on the day to mark the United Nations World Tourism Day. This year’s theme is “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano had said the initiative was meant to help Kenyans celebrate the day, reconnect with wildlife, and appreciate the country’s natural heritage.

“To honor this significant occasion, the Government of Kenya is offering free entry to all Kenyan citizens to visit KWS-managed national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries on Saturday, September 27, 2025,” Miano said in a statement.

However, in a notice issued Friday, KWS said Lake Nakuru National Park would not be part of the free entry offer.

“Customers with prepaid eCitizen tickets are advised to access Lake Nakuru National Park through Nderit Gate from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025. The main gate and Lanet gate will remain closed,” the statement read.
