Panic at Wilson Airport in Nairobi as a passenger aircraft crash-lands


There was panic at the Wilson Airport in Nairobi when a passenger plane crash landed there on Friday evening.

The plane is operated by Aviation & Logistics Services (ALS)—a key partner for World Food Programme (WFP) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)—was involved in the emergency landing with few injuries, witnesses said.

It had originated Kisumu. It is not clear what caused the hard landing. The plane was stuck on the runway for long.

Police spokesman Muchiri Nyaga said the plane had left Kisumu for Wilson Airport when the incident happened.

“This has happened this evening less than one hour ago. We have only the scantiest of information this far- the plane was from Kisumu to Wilson airport. No injuries reported. Further details to be availed,” he said.

The area was experiencing rains when the incident happened.

Passengers who bolted out of the plane after it had landed were seen on the runway.

A video that captured the drama showed the passengers on the runway as other officials tried to push the out of the scene.

Police said the situation was under control and relevant authorities were pursuing and investigating the matter.
