President William Ruto on Wednesday held talks at State House, Nairobi with former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, who also serves as the African Union High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, with discussions focusing on peace and stability in South Sudan.
The high-level meeting centred on ongoing regional efforts to consolidate peace in South Sudan and strengthen coordination among African Union and regional stakeholders in conflict resolution.
Speaking after the talks, Ruto underscored the need for sustained collaboration among African leaders and partners to end conflicts across the continent.
“Lasting peace in Africa requires all actors and stakeholders to work together to silence the guns, keep the peace, and achieve stability,” the President said.

The discussions also highlighted South Sudan’s progress since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 and its subsequent independence in 2011.
President Ruto noted that Kenya and the wider East African region have remained key partners in supporting South Sudan through both its achievements and challenges over the years.
“Since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and independence, Kenya and the region have walked with the people of South Sudan in their triumphs and challenges,” he added.
The meeting comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts by the African Union and regional blocs to reinforce stability in the Horn of Africa and the broader Red Sea region, where peace processes remain fragile but ongoing.
