Woman found dead in ditch as husband rescued from mob attack in Baringo


Police in Baringo County launched investigations into the death of a 46-year-old woman whose body was found in a ditch in Chemolingot, as her husband was rescued from an angry mob that suspected him of involvement in her death.

The incident was reported on Saturday after members of the public alerted police about the body of a woman lying in a ditch within the Stadium area in Chemolingot, Tiaty Central Sub-county.

A team of officers visited the scene and identified the deceased as Agnes Cherotich, 46.

Police recovered several items next to the body, including assorted clothing, a Tecno button phone with a green cover, medical drugs, a pair of black sandals, a panga, a knife, three arrowheads, a bow, a walking stick, a half-filled water bottle containing chang’aa, and a Fanta bottle containing cooking oil.

Officers who examined the body reported that there were no visible external injuries. The body was moved to Kabarnet County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s husband was attacked by members of the public who suspected him of being involved in his wife’s death. Police intervened and rescued him before rushing him to Chemolingot Sub-County Hospital.

He sustained severe head injuries during the assault and was reported to be in a serious but stable condition while receiving treatment.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are ongoing. Police are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death and determine the next course of action.

Meanwhile, police in Nyandarua County have launched investigations after the body of a 30-year-old man was discovered on a farm near a church under suspicious circumstances.

Members of the public alerted police after finding the lifeless body on Saturday near a farm close to PCEA Church in Nyandarua North Sub-county.

The deceased was identified as Antony Kibe Wairimu, 30, a resident of Gwakungu Township. Police found his body lying half-naked, with blood-stained fluid around the anal area and slight bruises on his left knee.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigators are treating the death as a suspected murder. Police said the post-mortem examination will help establish the cause of death and whether the injuries are consistent with a sexual assault or any other form of fatal attack. No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
