Nairobi MCA Among Three Charged Over Alleg ed Violent Robbery in Donholm

A serving Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) has been arraigned alongside two co-accused over an alleged violent robbery in Donholm, adding a new twist to growing concerns over rising cases of violent crime in the Nairobi Metropolitan area.

The three suspects appeared before the Makadara Law Courts on Tuesday, where they denied charges of robbery with violence linked to an incident that allegedly took place on June 26, 2026, in the Donholm area of Nairobi.

According to court documents and investigators, the accused allegedly attacked three victims before robbing them of cash and other valuables. The suspects are said to have fled the scene immediately after the incident, prompting an investigation by detectives.

Police launched a probe after receiving reports from the victims, with investigators gathering witness statements and other evidence that eventually led to the arrest of the three suspects. The case file was later forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved the charges.

Although prosecutors did not reveal the exact value of the stolen property during the court proceedings, they maintained that the nature of the attack met the legal threshold for robbery with violence, one of the most serious criminal offences under Kenyan law.

“The accused persons are alleged to have jointly committed the offence while using force against the victims before stealing their property,” the prosecution told the court.

The case has attracted significant public interest due to the involvement of a sitting MCA, placing an elected public official at the centre of a serious criminal prosecution.

Legal experts note that robbery with violence charges carry severe penalties upon conviction and are typically preferred in cases where force, threats, or weapons are allegedly used during the commission of a robbery.

Following their plea, the court granted each of the three accused persons a bond of Sh1 million with an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The court directed that the matter proceed to hearing, during which prosecutors are expected to present evidence linking the suspects to the alleged robbery.

The arraignment comes at a time when security agencies are battling a resurgence of violent robberies across Nairobi and neighbouring counties.

In recent weeks, several high-profile incidents have raised alarm among residents and business owners. Among them was a robbery captured on CCTV in Ruaka, Kiambu County, where an armed suspect stormed a salon, causing panic among customers and employees before escaping with stolen valuables.

Separately, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recently confirmed the fatal shooting of a suspect linked to the widely publicized armed robbery at a restaurant in Spring Valley, Nairobi, following a shootout in Joska, Machakos County.

Security agencies say they have intensified intelligence-led operations targeting criminal gangs believed to be behind a series of robberies, muggings and attacks reported across the capital and its outskirts.

A senior investigator familiar with the Donholm case said authorities remain committed to ensuring that all individuals implicated in criminal activities are brought to justice, regardless of their social status or public office.

“No one is above the law. Investigations are guided by evidence, and all suspects are entitled to a fair hearing before the courts,” the officer said.

As the case proceeds through the justice system, residents and political observers are expected to closely follow the proceedings, given the high-profile nature of the accused and the broader debate surrounding crime and public accountability.

The suspects remain out on bond as they await the next court appearance, where further directions on the case will be issued.
