Mombasa, Turkana Counties Appoint New Leaders to Education and Housing Boards


Mombasa and Turkana counties have announced new appointments to key county boards, with leaders expected to oversee education support and affordable housing initiatives.

In Mombasa, Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir appointed Bennette Nzamba as the Chairperson of the Mombasa County Elimu Scheme Board for a three-year term.

The appointment was made under the Mombasa County Elimu Scheme Act, 2023, with Nzamba expected to provide leadership in guiding the county’s education support programmes.

According to the Gazette notice, the appointment took effect on March 30, 2026.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Mombasa County Elimu Scheme Act, 2023, I appoint Bennette Nzamba to be Chairperson of the Mombasa County Elimu Scheme Board for a term of three years,” the notice stated.

The Mombasa County Elimu Scheme was established to support learners through education assistance programmes aimed at improving access to learning opportunities.

Meanwhile, Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai appointed Peter Lolem Ekuwom as the Chairperson of the County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee.

The appointment followed approval by the Turkana County Assembly on May 6, 2026, and was made under the Affordable Housing Act.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of Kenya and section 34(3) of the Affordable Housing Act, I appoint Peter Lolem Ekuwom as the Chairperson County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee,” the Gazette notice reads.

Ekuwom will lead the committee in supporting the county’s affordable housing agenda, including coordination and oversight of housing programmes targeting residents in both rural and urban areas.

The appointments come as county governments continue strengthening leadership structures to support service delivery and implement development programmes in education and housing sectors.
