Kenyan singer and businesswoman Akothee has left social media users amused and reflective after sharing a candid conversation with her house girl, who broke down in tears after being abandoned by her husband.
In a lengthy social media post, Akothee narrated how she found her house girl unusually distressed and decided to find out what was troubling her.
According to Akothee, the woman, who is only 30 years old, told her that she was struggling emotionally after her husband walked away, leaving her to take care of three children.
“My house girl was so scattered today, and upon engaging her, she broke down and started crying. So I asked her: Mama, shida ni nini?” Akothee wrote.
The woman reportedly responded that she was “nimechanganyikiwa” before opening up about the source of her distress.
Akothee said her employee explained that her husband had left her with three children, two whom they had together and another from her previous relationship.
The situation had reportedly become even more painful because neighbours were laughing at her, claiming she had been abandoned by her husband.
The mother of five said she initially did not know whether to laugh or cry as she listened to the emotional story.
Rather than simply sympathising with her, Akothee used her own complicated relationship history to put the situation into perspective.
“Sasa wewe umeachwa na watoto watatu na bwana wawili, na unachekwa na majirani tu—hawapiti watu saba. Je, mimi nimeachwa-achwa na mabwana na watoto watano,” she narrated.
She jokingly reminded her house girl that her own relationship experiences had been publicly scrutinised by far more people than a few neighbours.
“Na ninachekwa na ulimwengu mzima, wacha majirani!” Akothee added.
The outspoken celebrity also referred to her own recent relationship experiences, joking that even after getting married again, the relationship did not last.
“Na hata juzi tena nikaolewa na mwendawazimu nikamwacha. Si utafute tu bwana mwingine, mama? Mabwana siku hizi ni per day! Hata mimi sina,” she said.
Akothee concluded her humorous but seemingly encouraging message with advice urging the young woman to prioritise financial stability rather than allowing relationship problems to completely derail her life.
