A 20-year-old food vendor drowned in a borehole in Nyamira North Sub-County while fetching water for his business.
Finley Mong’are Getange slipped and fell into the borehole at his home in Nyamusi on the night of Friday, August 28, 2026.
Police said Mong’are and his colleague, had gone to their home to buy food as they operated as food vendors.
Mong’are reportedly went to fetch water from a nearby borehole when he slipped and fell inside.
One of them attempted to rescue him before he was rushed to Bwomboga Hospital in Nyamira. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased’s body was moved to Bwomboga Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
And a 22-year-old fisherman is feared to have drowned in Lake Victoria after he slipped from a boat while fishing in Siaya County.
Kevin Ochieng Omino drowned on Friday while fishing within East Asembo Location, Omia Mwalo Sub-Location in Rarieda Sub-County.
Police officers visited the scene and established that Omino had fallen into the lake after losing his balance on the fishing boat.
His body had not been retrieved by Sunday.
Police and local residents were expected to continue with efforts to locate and recover the missing fisherman’s body.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
